Crash multiplier maths: what the number really does

Behind the climbing line sits one random draw and a fixed margin, with no pattern to read.

The short version

A crash round ends at a randomly drawn multiplier. Reaching at least m has probability near RTP divided by m, which makes 2x appear in roughly every second round and 10x in about one of ten. Because the margin is fixed into that draw, no cash-out target earns a profit.

Crash feels like a reflex test. Underneath it is one formula, and once you see it the idea of reading a pattern falls away. Still choosing? Our Canada casino shortlist lays out the options.

Mechanics and controls follow. Only adults of legal age in their province should play.

How a crash point is drawn

Ahead of each round the game draws a hidden random number, and that number fixes the crash point. In many titles the odds of getting at least m are close to (1 minus the edge) divided by m. Assume a 1 per cent edge: 2x shows up in about 49.5 per cent of rounds, 10x in 9.9 per cent. A share of rounds ends instantly at 1.00x, which is how the margin collects.

That 1 per cent figure is illustrative; each game publishes its own RTP. All targets share one average payback, so aiming higher buys bigger swings and nothing else.

Provably fair in plain terms

Certain titles show a hash of a server seed before you bet, then disclose the seed once the round ends, mixed with your client seed. Recomputing the hash proves the outcome was locked in beforehand. It proves honesty, not profitability, and regulated games lean on certified RNG instead. The crash games page says what to read in the game information.

Myths worth dropping

  • Doubling after every loss: limits or an empty balance arrive fast.
  • Studying earlier crashes: they carry no information about the next.
  • Paid signals and bots: nobody can see the coming number.
  • Always cashing out low: identical expected loss, spread over smaller steps.

Treat groups that sell predictions with caution.

Keeping control

Start by fixing deposit and loss limits, switch on auto cash-out and size each bet as a sliver of the session budget. Choose how many rounds you will play before you begin, and pause between sessions. The limits and self-exclusion playbook covers the tools and help.

Crash against slots

In slots the volatility hides inside a paytable, whereas crash displays it live as a multiplier. Each has an edge, and watching results beats neither. A faster rhythm means a given stake gets bet more often per hour, so expected loss accumulates sooner. Put it next to the numbers on the slots page.

Before round one

Open the information page and note the RTP, the highest multiplier, the win cap and how double bets work. Test that auto cash-out triggers and that your limits are live. Try the minimum stake for a few rounds to sense the tempo. If it is too fast for you, switch to a calmer game or take a break.

Adults only. The legal age is 19 in most provinces and 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. Gambling carries real risk of loss. Set limits and stop when it stops being fun. This page is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice.

Common questions

Could a crash game be fixed?

Under a licence, outcomes come from certified random generators that labs have tested, and provably fair titles let you audit every round yourself. Brands without a licence are riskier because nobody inspects their code. Check the licence, then read the game page for the declared RTP.

How big is the edge in crash?

Each title differs. Most list an RTP somewhere from 97 to 99 per cent, so the margin runs 1 to 3 per cent, and it sits inside the crash distribution, for example as instant 1.00x rounds. The game's own info screen gives the real number.

Why is crash so hard to put down?

Rounds last seconds, feedback is immediate and a near miss near a big multiplier feels like a prize you almost held. Picking your own cash-out adds a feeling of control that the arithmetic does not support. Limits, pauses and tiny stakes weaken the pull.
